Common Questions

Q: What is energy healing?

A: Quantum physics tells us that energy and mass are interchangeable. Mass (our human body for these purposes) is a form of energy. The practice of energy healing is the transmission of healing energy from the universe to the client. The healer acts as a channel for this energy. Healing energy can move and release energies that negatively impact the client. Energy healing has the potential for creating transformation of the mind, body, energy field and soul.

Q: How can energy healing help?

A: Through the release of blocked energy or negative energies a client can experience a greater sense of wholeness, calm and peace. Energy healing can help connect and integrate the personality and soul. This integration can lead to a feeling of greater self-acceptance, and provide more clarity about one's purpose in life.

Q: If I have a history of trauma, will energy healing help?

A: If there is a known history of trauma psychotherapy in preparation for energy healing is recommended. Energy healing can bring up feelings similar to the ones experienced during the trauma, and it is important to have good coping skills and support to manage these emotions. That said, it is important to differentiate between types of energy healing that focus specifically on the chakras or energy field, and those that work with energy meridians. Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is an example of a kind of energy healing that works with the meridians, and can be very helpful in healing traumatic experience. For more information on EFT, see the work of David Finkelstein.

Q: What kinds of things should I prepare myself to feel after a healing session?

A: Everyone experiences energy healing differently, and no two sessions are the same. Sometimes you will feel great after a session. At other times you may have difficult feelings come up—sometimes for as long as a few days. This is the effect of energies continuing to release after the session. Energy healing can at times be physically purifying. This type of purification may be unpleasant. I have had clients report digestive difficulties (this can be the solar plexus adjusting to new energies), funny tastes in the mouth (perhaps this is due to impurities leaving the body), back pain that moves around, and minor headaches.

Q: What kinds of practices are good to do to support the energy healing work I am doing?

A: Anything that helps ground your energy, is soothing, and enjoyable. Exercise helps move and release energy, as does meditation, dancing, and practices like Tai Chi.
